We are pleased to introduce our premier Featured Artist for June, 2015, Sandra Smith-Poling. Sandra, a water color painter, is heavily influenced by her father and renowned Southern California artist, Craig Smith; navy artist Arthur Beaumont, as well as painters Sir William Russell Flint and John Singer Sargent. Upon graduating from medical school her father asked her if she was \”ready to take up some serious art studying after having fun all those years in school\”. He told her that the only permanent things in the universe were the arts. While balancing a family and busy medical practice she took his advice and pursued her interest in painting and thus a whole new world opened up for Sandra.
Sandra has traveled extensively in the Unites States and abroad and shows her paintings in galleries and private collections worldwide. Her studio is located in Port Townsend, WA, a Victorian Seaport on the Olympic Peninsula known for its artists, musicians and wooden boat builders. Sandra has exhibited many of her paintings in juried shows and is the 2004 Wooden Boat Festival Poster Award Winner for her painting of the ARTHUR FOSS towing the WAWONA. She currently exhibits her work at Gallery-9 in the city\’s historic waterfront business district.
Although she has painted all over the world, Sandra finds much of her inspiration in and around the city of Port Townsend where some of her favorite subjects are local businesses, sailboats and the sweeping waterfront from out on the Admiralty Bay.
