It was a glorious evening for a stroll along Water Street with unusually warm temperatures for June in Port Townsend but, nonetheless, a perfect night for Gallery walking and people watching. Nothing like good weather and amazing talent to bring people out for a fun night of socializing and viewing some really incredible artwork by some of the finest artists anywhere. It was a bit overwhelming in fact, so much to take in and digest. So many brilliant colors, styles of painting and sculpture, from water colors to oils and acrylics to realism to fanciful whimsy, to art for small spaces in the form of brightly colored, patterned and textured boxes, and even a bit of wearable art.

I made it to three galleries on this occasion, the Northwind Arts Center, Gallery-9 and a new temporary gallery at the corner of Taylor and Water Streets called “839 Pop-Up Gallery” where I met the artists, Jolene Sunding, Don Tiller and Jim Jacobson. Jolene is the creator of monoprints, original patterns, abstract, colorful and tangible surface design printed on paper and mounted on blocks. These little gems are perfect for placing in smaller areas around the home or office, on a bookshelf or end table or just anywhere really that needs a burst of color. Don Tiller paints contemporary acrylic landscapes and Jim Jacobson is an oil painter. Stop by and visit their fabulous gallery sometime this summer. They’ll be there till at least the end of August.
